Born and bred on Teesside, Thomas has been a member of the family law team since he joined Freeman Johnson in 2017.
Thomas assists clients with divorce, financial matters, child arrangements, injunctive proceedings and cohabitation agreements and disputes.
Based mainly in Durham, Thomas is also happy to offer initial appointments at our Spennymoor and Darlington offices.
Thomas graduated with a first class degree in law in July 2016 and scored “outstanding” in the Bar Professional Training Course (the qualifying exam for barristers).
Whilst at University, Thomas was repeatedly chosen to represent the university in Courtroom advocacy competitions including winning the Scarman Shield as runner up in the ESU-ECC National Mooting Competition 2015. He was also selected to represent the university at the Hamish Memorial and KK Luthra competitions in India.
Thomas also worked for a law firm in Singapore where his work included drafting applications and skeleton arguments on various cases including H.T S.R.L v Woon Wee Shou which concerned the confidentiality of leaked documents online in the Singapore Supreme Court.
After graduation, Thomas represented clients in various County Courts from Newcastle to Manchester including small claim trials before joining Freeman Johnson.
Thomas was awarded the Resolution Family Law prize in 2019 and has recently published his LLM Masters on the topic of spousal maintenance and the Court’s current approach to this.
Thomas conducts his own advocacy where possible and became a solicitor in 2020 specialising in family law.
He has been described as pragmatic, clear and empathetic and is based at our Durham office.
Away from the office, Tom likes travelling, gigs, gardening, whisky and rugby.
