Michael began working in Spennymoor as an articled clerk in 1981 and qualified in October 1983. He has worked in Spennymoor for his entire career, progressing to sole principal when Freeman Johnson merged in 1998.
Having studied at Bede School in Sunderland, Michael then headed off to Sheffield University (LL.B) and the Chester College of Law whilst studying to become a solicitor.
Michael is a specialist in criminal law, serving clients throughout the North East of England, and works with clients who may have been implicated in minor offence charges or larger and more serious cases. He can provide sound legal advice whilst in the police station, or represent a client in Magistrates or Crown court. With Freeman Johnson being a holder of a Criminal Defence Service contract, Michael is able to provide a comprehensive publicly funded service (legal aid) to clients in police stations whilst Magistrates and Court representation may be available free of charge depending on individual circumstances.
Michael is a member of Law Soc and the Criminal Law Solicitors Association, in order to consistently expand his knowledge in his own field to be able to better assist clients.
Michael is a father of three, his two eldest children living in London – his eldest son a graduate in Civil Engineering from Imperial college and his daughter studying Geography at Kings College. Michael’s youngest son started school in September 2014.
A keen sports fan, Michael particularly enjoys football and golf. He is a lifelong supporter (and season ticket holder) of Sunderland AFC.
