Personal Statement

Dorian is a Solicitor who has specialised in serious and catastrophic personal injury and medical negligence actions over the last 20 years. After qualifying as a Solicitor in 1995 he developed expertise in industrial injury and disease claims acting for trade union clients.  He joined Freeman Johnson in 2000 and works at our Darlington office. His caseload now comprises mainly medical negligence cases.

My medical negligence caseload encompasses a broad spectrum of cases, pursuing claims where errors were made by the NHS against Hospital Trusts, private clinics, GP practices, Walk-in centres and Nursing Homes.  I enjoy a close working relationship with Barristers and medical experts so as to ensure the best possibility of a successful outcome.

My particular specialities and experience are in the following type of cases:

  • Surgical errors and misdiagnosis
  • Misdiagnosis or delay in the treatment of cancer
  • Fatal injuries claims arising from malpractice
  • Birth injury claims – cerebral palsy
  • Cosmetic surgery, especially breast augmentation or reconstruction following mastectomy

In personal injury cases I have acted for claimants who have unfortunately sustained serious brain, spinal and orthopaedic trauma. This requires close liaison with various medical specialities to assist in the provision of rehabilitation. I have also represented families of the bereaved following fatal road traffic accidents. Clients have instructed me in sexual abuse claims where Legal Aid is still available, subject to assessment. In other cases I represent clients on a “no win no fee” arrangement (known as a Conditional Fee Agreement) or through legal expenses insurance.

Over the years I have acted for business clients in litigation, representing both Claimants and Defendants in commercial disputes and breach of contract.

  • I have been a Law Society Personal Injury Panel member since 1999.
  • I am a member of the Association of Personal Injury Lawyers (APIL).
  • I am a member of the North of England Medico-legal Society.
  • For many years I have attended medico-legal conferences by APIL and AVMA throughout the UK. As a result, I have gained a more informed understanding of medicine, what goes wrong and the impact that it has had on my clients.

In my spare time I am often found hiking in the Lake District or the Dales or enjoying the beautiful north east coast.
